word vomit

ok ok. that last post was a much needed release, but i feel better today.

and speaking of word vomit-

last night, as i was falling asleep, i was thinking about the importance of writing. i most definately do not consider myself a writer. every time i post something on this blog i imagine my sister, ariane, cringing at every grammar and syntax error. i read other peoples' blogs and i find myself quietly judging, but who cares.

meredith (my dearest friend) once told me that i write like a speak. with this blog and the inspiration of others, i hope i can find a way to piece it all together in a beautiful word collage. right now it's word splatter, but at least it's there.

my bitterness yesterday drove me up the whitepass road a bit. i felt like listening to the blues on the local public radio station, and i pulled over as soon as the station lost signal. i felt better with this view...

ten things i HATE about skagway

10. the horrible, unending cold
9. serving food to my ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend
8. wanting to eat some breakfast in town, discover no breakfast place is open, deciding to make food instead and see that the grocery store decided to close that day, so feel forced to eat a burger at the local brew pub at 11am
7. too many familiar faces
6. cheap foreigners who don't tip
5. knowing that i've seen every movie at the video store
4. no movie theatre
3. very slow internet connection
2. sleazy old men
1. having people think you are a stuck up brat, only because you might not want to say hi to everyone because you are having a bad day

yep. the season just ended, and i'm feeling bitter.
time for a long nap.

no ship day

no ships today, and the sun is shining brightly.
perhaps i'll go for a hike,
but i will probably just nap instead.
this is my house in fall. xo

beginning of the end

i know i know i know. i like my madams. i have to say goodbye to all of them this week, and i'm handling it in a few different ways. sometimes when i say them i plead "don't go!" and they laugh. i have taken up singing "bye bye blackbird", "leavin' on a jet plane", and "hit the road jack." keep in mind, these are not spontaneous bursts of song, these songs i sing with our talented in house pianist, and i dedicate them to m'girls. i love them all, and they made my life unbelievably easy and made me look really good to my boss. so here they are---

margeaux, aka madam annie whichway

meredith, aka madam dee flowers

ericka, aka madam selma knockers

heather, aka madam landa mandalay

rachel, aka madam ella vagoodtime

johanna, aka madam chantelle yourwife

jessi, aka madam donna matrix

love these ladies

the new madam's van

my amazing boss, and the owner of the red onion recently bought this little electric vehicle for the madams to use as we tool around town. it's incredibly quiet, can only go 25 mph, has about a 50 mile battery life, and uses about as much power as a dryer. i love this little lady bug.

thanksgiving

tonight i went to thanksgiving dinner. thankfully this dinner was held just around the bend from my house in a little gold rush camp known as "liarsville", so i just needed to ride my adorable bike. sadly i showed up a bit late for the festivities, but i ate some turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, gravy, and cream cheese pie. (btw-cream cheese pie is not cheesecake, it's BETTER).

i got to hang out with one of my favorite madams-madam margeaux. we hung out in the eerily not cold weather, making sure the dogs kept the bears away and talked nonsense. i love her, and i love this time of year.

so many reasons to celebrate and hug and cry and reminisce and party and sleep and take pictures and eat and dance and look at each other and hope that you will get to see each other in this place in just 8 short months....i hope i hope i hope.
