It's been a long time since I've set any real goals. I am mostly a go-with-the-flow sort of girl, and hope for the best. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by goals, and trust that finishing my latest knitting project will suffice. That plan does not equal full happiness, and mostly ends with needle calluses.
A few months back, when we were getting ready to move up here to Anchorage, Jeff and I got interested in simple living, macro-biotic eating, and overall healthy living. I was pretty jazzed about it all, but then I watched the movie, Food Inc. It made me feel disgusted and hopeless. The movie was supposed to enlighten viewers to the horror of processed foods, and push people towards organic and locally grown foods. The effect it had on me was starving myself, until I finally ate a bag of Doritos late at night out of sheer fear of meat and pesticide-polluted produce. It was just wrong.
Since then, I got my act together, and I have adopted a fairly loose pescatarian lifestyle (meaning I'll eat the meat of a land animal at a dinner party) and I've been riding my bike to work most days. The problem is that these little life changes still don't feel like enough. So, I've set some goals to achieve by my 30th birthday. Here they are.
1. Work out 30-60 minutes a day six times a week.
This is something that probably comes pretty easily to most people, but I am perpetually l a zzzzz y. I love the feeling of having just worked out, but I'm pretty miserable doing suicide jumps to Insanity DVDs. It's worth it though. It makes the knitting to episodes of Mad Men so much more worth it.
2. Save $300 a month.
As in do not touch, not available, strictly emergency savings. My savings account is always fluctuating, but that has got to stop. I have an IRA and I'm much better than I used to be with money. But this is a simple place to start-and I'm telling with the world. So there ya go.
3. Bring my lunch to work every day.
You heard me. Every. Day. I bring my lunch to work most days, but I love a little sushi time at the Teriyaki Box. But those days are no more.
4. Ride my bike to work at least three times a week.
I already do this, but it is starting to get colder and wetter here in Alaska. This might start to get tricky once October hits, but I will keep going until my birthday on November 1st. I will...
I hope that these goals become habits. When I achieve this little goals, it will be like a little birthday present to myself come November 1. I really hope that if I slip up, or laze out, I'll be able to get right back on track.
What are your goals?
