Jeff and I had a sweet little Thanksgiving. We only had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and of course GRAVY. Very early on in Thanksgiving planning, I was sure to stress the importance of making the most delicious gravy. I prefer the turkey cooked with lots of veggies, and then gravy made directly from the delicious drippings. Because of my endless ramblings about my preferences, Jeff decided to make a gravy base in advance. He slow cooked chicken wings, carrots, celery, garlic, and loads of fragrant herbs and spices.
I am pretty glad that he knew I wasn't kidding about the importance of good gravy. And good gravy! that gravy was good! (almost as good as m'mama makes)
It's a good thing he made a gravy base in advance, because two lean turkey breasts didn't give us much drippings.
My turkey (pre-gravy).
Our little Thanksgiving dinner was just for the two of us, but we had a bunch of friends over for dessert in the evening. I made pumpkin cookies and pumpkin shaped sugar cookies.
Jeff made pumpkin pie and pecan pie.
Jeff also made a pumpkin roll and chocolate mousse.

I was a little homesick for my family in Utah, but my Juneau substitute was a delight. I am so thankful to live in a beautiful place with such loving friends.
...and I am thankful for the couple of people who read my lil blog. :)

ReplyDeleteThe gravies (there were actually 2--one for the meat and one for the potatoes) at the Grand America was to die for. I kept thinking how much you would have loved it.
